Winter sports in the Upper Black Forest - a paradise for active people and connoisseurs

When the Upper Black Forest turns into a glittering winter wonderland, the best time for all winter sports fans begins. Around the Kesslermühle, there are countless opportunities to actively enjoy the cold season – whether cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, winter hiking or sledging.

Cross-country skiing paradise Hinterzarten

Cross-country skiing enthusiasts also get their money’s worth in Hinterzarten. With a total of 80 kilometers of groomed trails, the region offers ideal conditions for beginners and professionals alike. The trails vary in length and difficulty so that everyone can find the perfect route for them. While the shortest trail is only 1.7 kilometers long, the longest stretches over 30 kilometers through the snow-covered forests of the Upper Black Forest.

A perfectly groomed cross-country ski trail leads right past the Hotel Kesslermühle, giving you easy access to the extensive network of trails. Enjoy the snow-covered nature on varied routes and breathtaking views of the wintry Black Forest landscape.

Skiing on the Feldberg and Thoma ski center

Just a few kilometers from Hinterzarten is the Feldberg, the largest ski area in the Black Forest. With over 30 kilometers of slopes in varying degrees of difficulty, both beginners and ambitious winter sports enthusiasts will get their money’s worth here. Modern lifts, a snow park for freestylers as well as ski schools and rental stations make the Feldberg a hotspot for skiers and snowboarders.

Those who prefer a more family-friendly experience will find the best conditions for beginners and leisure skiers at the Thoma ski center in Hinterzarten. The three perfectly groomed pistes are particularly popular with families with children and allow for carefree days of skiing. Thanks to floodlights, the fun on the slopes can even continue in the evening.

Sledging fun on the Kesslerhang

The Kesslerhang is located directly in front of the Hotel Kesslermühle, a perfect place for sledging enthusiasts and families with children. Here you can sledge down the slope and enjoy winter fun to the full.

For those who don’t have their own equipment, the Hotel Kesslermühle offers free sledge hire – ideal for spontaneous adventures in the snow.

Winter hiking & snowshoe tours

The Upper Black Forest offers an extensive network of winter hiking trails with a total of over 60 kilometers of cleared routes. We particularly recommend tours to the high moor at Zweiseenblick or through the idyllic Höllental valley to the impressive Ravenna viaduct. Here you can experience untouched nature and the tranquil beauty of the Black Forest in all its glory.

For those who want to experience winter even more intensively, snowshoes are available to hire at the hotel. Guests can also take part in guided snowshoe tours with our physiotherapist Manuela Schmid, who will guide you safely through the beautiful winter landscape and give you valuable tips on technique.

Winter magic at the Kesslermühle

After an active day in the clear winter air, our wellness area invites you to relax. Let yourself be pampered in the sauna or with a massage.

Experience the magic of winter in the Upper Black Forest – we look forward to welcoming you to the Kesslermühle! ❄️
