Throughout the history of our 4-star hotel in Hinterzarten, we have been committed for many years to using energy and resources more consciously and conserving them in our hotel operations. On this page, we would like to give you an insight into the measures we have already implemented – from our solar panel system and heat recovery to our approach to waste management, transport and consumables.

Since November 2022, we have had a total of 354 m² of solar panels on our roof, allowing us to feed 97.3 kWp of self-generated electricity into our system and, according to our load profile, consume up to 95% of it ourselves. We feed any excess electricity into the grid.
As our electricity requirements are greater than we can produce with the solar panels on the roof, we also purchase green electricity from the company Naturenergie, which consists of 100% hydroelectric power and is produced regionally in hydroelectric power plants in the Black Forest.
In our combined heat and power plant, residual heat generated during electricity production is also fed into the heating system.
Wherever possible and practical, motion sensors are used to prevent unnecessary energy waste.
In addition, most of the lighting in the building is equipped with long-lasting LED bulbs, which reduce electricity consumption compared to conventional bulbs.
Of course, we make sure that these measures never compromise our guests’ comfort.
For guests arriving in an electric vehicle, two charging stations are available right at the hotel. The charging stations are powered by our energy mix, which includes electricity generated by our own solar panels as well as hydropower from Naturenergie. You can charge your car here as usual using your card.
You’ll find certified natural cosmetics throughout our sauna and pool area as well as in the guest rooms. Hand soap, shower gel, and shampoo, as well as hand and body lotion, are vegan and not tested on animals. These natural and eco-friendly formulations use extracts from certified organic farming and contain no artificial colors. We source these products, which are manufactured in Austria, in bulk and fill them into small pump dispensers. This allows us to avoid unnecessary packaging materials and transportation.
To avoid unnecessary plastic packaging, we offer environmentally friendly bathroom products such as cotton pads, bamboo cotton buds, cardboard nail files and compostable shower caps.

Since 2023, we have been proud to announce that we have been awarded the DEHOGA Environmental Check in the highest category, “gold,” by the German Hotel and Restaurant Association. This recognizes our ongoing efforts to make our hotel—and thus your vacation—more sustainable.
